Gastric Cancer
The 2 types of gastric cancer are:
Intestinal adenocarcinoma - Common on lesser curvature of stomach
Diffuse adenocarcinoma - Associated with Signet cells
The most important risk factor here is Chronic H. pylori infection. Other risk factors include:
EBV infection
Diet - Mainly food with nitrates or salt-based preservatives (fresh fruits and vegetables are protective here)
Smoking, Alcohol
Autoimmune gastritis
Inherited syndromes (rare)
Patients present with:
IDA (iron-deficiency anaemia)
Hx of new-onset Dyspepsia
Early satiety (anorexia)
Weight loss
Progressive dysphagia
Invesitgations - Endoscopy w/biopsy, and a staging CT
Management - Surgery, chemo/radiotherapy, targeted therapy
